Andrew Simpson

Andrew Simpson mugshotAndrew Simpson has been sailing for over 50 years. He joined a pre-sea training ship at the age of thirteen and entered the Merchant Navy as an officer cadet three weeks short of his seventeenth birthday. He has been associated with the sea ever since. Over his working life Andrew has been a yacht designer – both keelboats and multihulls – boat builder and surveyor. He is also a yachting journalist, illustrator, editor (for 7 years the Associate Editor of Practical Boat Owner – Britain's biggest selling boating magazine) and the author of a number of books.

He is now the Editor and Publisher of Books for Sail.

Andrew met his wife Chele in Texas. Together they sailed from Galveston to the Leeward Islands, some 2,000 nautical miles away to the east. They remained in the Caribbean for nearly a year before returning to the UK in 1979.

When not in the UK or travelling elsewhere, they now live and work aboard their 12m light displacement cutter, Shindig, designed and built by Andrew (ably assisted by his young shipwrights, it must be acknowledged) and now in Greek waters.
